DETERMINING FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE PERCEPTION OF QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ADULTS UNDER RENAL REPLACEMENT THERAPY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Chilean Population is aging, experiencing an epidemiological transition characterized by increasing prevalence of non transmissible chronic diseases, causing premature death and affecting the economy of family and society, provoking serious adverse effects jn the quality of Jjfe [QL] of the affected people. A health problem that is not far from this reality is Chronic Kidney Disease [ESRD] (Ministerio de Salud [MINSAL], 2003). The objective of this literature review is to understand the dimensions and factors that influence the QL of adult people in renal substitution therapy, from the perspective of the self-care mode/ of Dorothea Orem. A systematic database search was done utilizing PUBMED; PROQUEST, CINAHL, SCIELO and DIALNET with articles published in the last seven years. The results show that elderly women have the worst QL, and comorbidity; social-cultural patterns and support networks were important factors. There is general consensus about the deterioration of QL in persons with ESRD. The factors that influence QL are: age, sex, presence of comorbidity, depression, educational level, cognitive deterioration, familiy functionality, level of autonomy and quantity of time under therapy, better comprehension of the disease, high level of self-control, confrontational attitude towards the disease, and patient perception of the health team.
