Abstract

The objective of the current article is to indicate key aspects in the history of violation of research subjects' rights and to discuss some of the measures that protect participants in scientific research. A historical framework is described with episodes that have shaped the violation of human subjects' rights, and three examples related to the topic are developed: application of informed consent; training and mentoring of researchers and conflicts of interest
