Abstract

Green areas have become relevant when considering the well-being of a population, especially within cities. In this sense, Valparaíso is a city with a shortage of green areas in Chile, and one of them is in dispute. The Quebrada Cabritería is currently part of a conflict where the territory is semantized in various ways, so it is relevant to consider the symbolic construction of the territorialization process that is taking place, a fundamental element in the planning and territorial management processes. This is how the interest in this qualitative investigation of a descriptive nature arises, which recovered the speeches of neighbors of the nearby communities, which were analyzed from the grounded theory. From this, three factors of the territorialization process are identified: transformations of the territory, experiences and memories, and power disputes. In turn, four spheres are recognized with respect to the understanding of the ravine, which is seen as: a green lung, a place of passage, a risk area and an urban park. From here, various meanings emerge that give meaning to the territory and the practices that the community maintains around it.
