Flower and fruit abscision was studied in seven broad bean cultivars to measure the number of flowers scars and fruits per reproductive node at harvest in the green stage.
The Average number of flowers scars per reproductive node varied with cultivar from 3.0 to 6.5 and pod number from 0.2 to 0.5. The abscision percentage varied between 89,6 and 96,3%, overaging 93,1%. Cultivars showed the highert abscision percentage wer those not setting pods in the initial reproductive nodes. According to the results, the high abscision of flower and fruits should be, in generalm a characteristic of the indeterminate broad bean cutivars.
