Aesthetics and low income settlements

Abstract

This paper proposes an aesthetic approach to low-income settlements, based on the relationships that emerge between the communities and their urban environments. Although these poor settlements are widespread in our cities, they have been traditionally forgotten by architecture, urbanism and aesthetics. The article presents for discussion some theoretical and methodological elements in order to observe this daily and pragmatic production; mainly developed by the people themselves. An aesthetic approach is proposed from a functional, community and cultural perspective.
