Abstract

This article revises the concept of «literature within literature» in terms of the narrative of Spanish American writers during the last fifteen years, employing «aesthetic distance» as a solution to the problem of influence and adoption. Fourteen characteristics are proposed and examined in «three exemplary novels», an allusion to a description of novels from the twenties that redefined twentieth century narrative.
