Abstract

Since the popularization of drugs in the mid-twentieth century and their social, economic and cultural impact, the entire planet was transformed. Colombia, due to the specific conditions of its geography and the idiosyncrasies of its people, has been an ideal scenario for the production, circulation, distribution and consumption of psychotropic substances. Throughout the recent history of the country, journalists, lawyers and politicians, among others, have understood that the illegality of drugs does not admit concessions, because drug trafficking adapts easily to any expression of violence. From the geographical peripheries, artists and intellectuals have been included in that debate, contributing to a varied and suggestive repertoire of works. This review of cultural productions linked to drug trafficking seeks to build a cartography to guide our way out of this quagmire. Surely, the specific vision of the Colombian case can enlighten the rest of Latin American countries.
