Laicity, Laicism, SecularizationAbstract
The objective of this article is to deepen some prerogatives inherent in the processes of laicization, laicism and secularization in their unfolding in the contemporaneity. It is emphasized that each of the references evidences aspects concerning a civilizational and cultural project, as well as a conception of the world based on secular values. It seeks to distinguish laicity from laicism, demonstrating that the latter tends to suppress the religious premise of social life. The approach also suggests that laicity should be understood according to historical, cultural and religious characteristics. It is, therefore, a horizon in which social action is broadened by the experience of diversity, by the breaking of paradigms, concepts and values, with adaptations, readjustments and interests.
