Abstract

From the colonial period to the nineteenth century, many long poems written by well-known poets,

developed into a wide and solid tradition throughout Latin American literature. However, at the beginning

of the 20th century, Modernity bursts in Latin America with Vicente Huidobro and the innovations of

Creationism. From then on, the ‘long poem’ many times becomes a form of Poetics. In Chile, Eduardo

Anguita writes a long poem called Venus en el pudridero, recorded inside the framework of modern

literature. This poem summarizes the Poetics of Eduardo Anguita up to the year1967. This article

explores the way in which Venus en el pudridero is a modern ‘long poem’ in a foundational sense.

It also explores what kind of Poetics is intended by the poem. The article also explores the connection

between this Poetics and that of the Generation of 38 —to which the poet Eduardo Anguita belonged.

The relevance of this investigation lies in the contextualization of Anguita’s poem Venus en el pudridero

within the type of poetry written in Latin America in the 20th century, not only as a long poem but also as

a form of foundational Poetics.
