Abstract

This re-reading of Carlos Droguett’s novel Patas de Perro places emphasis on the complex relationships between the categories of animal and human. The hypothesis is that literature, in this case the novel analyzed, has been making these relationships more complex, even prior to the philosophical proposals in recent decades with respect to post-humanism. The deconstruction of the binary opposition animal / human that occurs in the area of the representation of Patas de Perro also enables the reader to appreciate how human violence becomes the fundamental theme in the discourse of ideas in the novel.
