Abstract

One of the most interesting aspects of Francisco Neñez de Pineda y Bascuñán’s Cautiverio feliz is the abundance of quotations included as part of its argumentative sections. The aim of this article is to show correspondences between Cautiverio feliz and three of the most quoted works in this writing –the Bible commentaries of Francisco de Mendoza, Gaspar Sánchez and Gaspar de Villarroel–, and to propose that these commentaria were not only quoted, but also used as polyantheas of other authors’ fragments. This means that an important number of the auctoritates present in Cautiverio feliz would have been taken from the above mentioned commentaria.
