Diferent contries: The Biblioteca Fundamentos de la Construcción de Chile and the explotation of the national territory

Abstract

The Biblioteca Fundamentos de la Construcción de Chile, an editorial project that recently republished one hundred pioneering works for the history of Chilean science and technology, includes several accounts on land exploration during the nineteenth- and early-twentieth centuries. Reviewing their content offers a chance to think of the beneits and risks of studying travelers, the motivations and signiicance of their expeditions, the (in)visibility of women in the history of this practice, and the ways these reports help to understand the territorial changes of the Chilean republic
