Abstract

While describing Southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego and taking photos of its landscapes, Alberto De Agostini enhances the category of the natural sublime dear to the European Romantic literature of the XIX century. The Antarctic nature is as fascinating as the world seen just after the Creation, still untrodden by human feet. Therefore, in the “American natural sublime” there is a primigenial and perturbing beauty still unknown in Europe. The essay analyzes the narrative modes used by the author in order to describe this peculiar nature.
