Abstract

From Juan Emar's writings we can extract a permanent concern for the functioning of time. He and his characters suspect that linearity is not true temporality and that, instead, time is simultaneity and duration, while memory functions as a great container of previous experience. These ideas allow us to relate the author to the theory of the French philosopher Henri Bergson, for whom being constitutes precisely pure duration. The aim of this paper is to develop the temporal proposal that underlies Emar's texts, taking as a reference the philosophy of the French thinker. To do so, we will start from Bergson's main theses and a significant sample of Emar's production. Through the relationship between the two authors, solid links will be established that reveal the complex and lucid vision of the world that Emar expresses in his writings.
