The following article deals with the differences between Japanese and Spanish text structure and the influence they have on the translation pro-cess. Samples of texts are compared and analyzed in terms of coherence, cohesion and thematic structure. This exercise will prove useful to identify and to exemplify the different trends between both languages and, we hope, it will contribute to improve the quality of translations.
