Abstract

Although it has been suggested that the phoneme series /p-t-k/ can be differentiated from its correlative series /b-d-g/ by voicing, an approximation to this phenomenon from the perspective of acoustic or articulatory phonetics reveals other features that could well determine the phonological contrast between these consonant pairs.Considering the above, in this work we bring into light the results of a comparative study, carried out by way of acoustic-phonetic measurement and statistical analysis of each one of the features traditionally suggested as distinguishing between the plosive consonant series in Spanish, /p-t-k/ and /b-d-g/, with the aim of demonstrating in a single corpus the presence and pertinence of these characteristics.
