Abstract

This paper examines the important role assigned to the concept of "sensitivity" in the Epicurean Doctrine, as subscribed by the Latin philosopher Lucretius (ca. 97-55 BC). The author attempts to show how the Atomic Theory, the Doctrine of Simulacra and Hedonism are articulated in the Epicurean conception of the Universe, starting from a particular notion of sensitivity which is based on the absolute reliance on the testimony of the senses
