Abstract

Aristotle has developed in Rhetoric the basis for deliberative rhetoric or politics from the standpoint of efficient argumentation. In this perspective, the orator must be able to find the means most suitable to every situation in order to persuade the majorities. However, Aristotle does not explain the way in which oratory must function within the political community.

This study seeks to determine the place of deliberative rhetoric in the polis. For doing so, it is necessary to consider the Aristotelian concept of the majorities in Rhetoric, Ethics to Nicomacus and Politics, and align it in relation to the strategies that permit its persuasion in contexts where reason and passion merge
