I explore in this research the ways in which the performances of European actors and actresses displayed in chilean opera theatres during the Belle Epoque generate and rearticulate among local elites civilizatory proyects, life proyects and body proyects, in relation to their constitution as modern subjects within a sub-altern position, including prescriptions and inscriptions relative to gender, and to femenine gender, in particular.
