Abstract

This research analyzes the spatial distribution of household heads with higher education, the evolution of residential segregation by district during 1992-2002, the effect of housing policies and whether the city replicates the behavior of the major Chilean cities. The main results indicate a strong polarization in the distribution of household heads with higher education, which has allowed in most districts to maintain or increase segregation, focusing primarily on areas of high socioeconomic status, that trends in residential location are maintained over time and that housing policies have actually impacted on the physica separation of the inhabitants
