Pockets of poverty and marginality of Greater Santiago at the district level

Abstract

The article refers to the results of Brahm and Riveros' research: "Poverty and Marginality Bags on Subdistrict Level in Gran Santiago's Districts of Less Human Development" (Fondecyt Project N° 1950799). The investigation is basad upon census obtained data, selected in accordance to the UNDP's perspectiva on human development. Through a methodological exercise of combining "Z" Scores and Main Components, the research detects and analizes the poverty bags on sub-districts level, within Gran Santiago's urban area. It identifies and defines the specific characteristics of the type of poverty in every one of the 86 selected subdistricis. Also, it determines their correlativa position from largar to smaller poverty level. The results allow to focus and adapt public and private policies and strategies aimed at overcoming poverty, through the referente to concrete, specifc needs and realities of every sub-district.
