Characterization of the recipient of environmental education. Sub-humid zone of Chile

Abstract

The environmental education requires knowledge about the receiver of the teaching. Under this perspective, the following aspects of the communes of the Subhumid Unit of Chile were analyzed: urban and rural population categories and the social and economic indicators of habitability of the house, social vulnerability and instruction levels. The results of the analysis indicated a strong coincidence between the best parameters of the social and economical indicators with those communes of high percentage of urban population that belong to the big cities; in the opposite, the rural communes frequently show different situations in regard to the indicators analized, and in some cases, deficient categories in all of them. According to these results, different strategies should be applied to environmental education related to the social and economical level of the recipient.
