An Interrupted Future: The Mining Union Number Six’s Building in Lota as Setting and Representation of the Proletarian Struggle.
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article explores the concept of ruin through the case of the Sindicato Minero number six building in Lota, an unfinished project that never reached completion and began its deterioration even before leaving the rough construction stage. Despite this—and here lies its uniqueness—it was a space actively used by the mining community from the onset of its construction, hosting significant events of the national proletarian movement. Through historical research and a critical bibliographic review, the article concludes that this building can be interpreted as the embodiment of an interrupted vision of the future, materialized in an incomplete architectural project. The Sindicato Minero building served as a stage for the miners and their community to develop their projects and address their concerns, while also acting as a canvas on which these concerns were expressed.
