Abstract

(In this article some reflections are presented on the relevance of the information and communication technologies (ICT) with respect to the formation of the professional translator and his/her future performance in the globalized world. First, the general and specific ICTs that support the work of the translator are described. Technologies like machine translation (MT), especially the use of online machine translation programs and computer assisted translation (CAT) are analysed. As an example of the latter, translation memories (TM) are described. Before concluding this study with a presentation of the translator’s workstation, one of the most recent and promissory sources of work for the professional translator will be shown: the localization of Web pages.)
